A Modernist Biodiverse Garden

Ornamental grasses in autumn in a modernist biodiverse garden by Haddon Studio

The bold, geometric plan for this residential garden tucked away on the edge of town was inspired by the modern artists Mark Rothko and Ben Nicholson and was designed to transform a lawned back garden into a contemporary garden to help to enrich the local biodiversity.

Wildlife-friendly, naturalistic planting was carefully selected to thrive in the shade of a large, existing Willow tree, alongside swathes of ornamental grasses. Elsewhere, a cream-toned sandstone terrace and a sunken fire-pit provide areas within which to sit and relax and pathways though the beds were created with re-purposed Yorkstone .
